Technology

Growth and innovation has been part of the POET legacy for the past 20 years. Now, as we are poised to lead the industry in a new direction, POET research and technology will get us there.

Our technology has delivered the creativity to achieve breakthrough processes that let us get more fuel with less energy from a bushel of corn, most notably BPX™ and BFRAC™. They're proprietary, patent-pending biotechnologies that unlock more starch from corn than ever possible - and yield ethanol above the industry standard output with considerably less energy.

These technologies are also the foundation of Project LIBERTY, which will redefine the entire biorefining industry. Our facility near Emmetsburg, Iowa will use BFRAC's advanced corn fractionation and BPX's lignocellulosic conversion technologies to produce cellulosic ethanol - the first facility in the world to do so commercially.

Cellulosic ethanol is produced from biomass with starches that are difficult to convert to fuel; sources including corn stover, grasses, wood chips, agricultural waste and other renewables. Even though Americans enjoy an abundance of corn, the primary feedstock for ethanol today, the ability to efficiently tap cellulosic material to make ethanol will radically increase the range of renewable materials we can use as feedstock.
