The Quality Manager is a crucial part of the entire operation of the plant.  This position is responsible for ALL data coming from the laboratory.  The Quality Manager is responsible for monitoring plant operations via laboratory data and ensuring maximum production quantity and quality, while following the procedures relating to production and safety of the plant.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Manage all aspects of the Quality Control Laboratory.
Oversee accountabilities for all lab personnel and overall responsibility for all lab work, testing, and reported results.
Train lab personnel on the use of lab equipment and interpretation of results.
Establish testing protocols and ensure that test results are repeatable and accurate.
Train operators in proper field sampling and testing techniques and interpretation of the results.
Approve laboratory personnel hiring.
Ensure that all city, county, state, and federal regulations as they apply to the laboratory and laboratory responsibilities are being met at all times.
Strive for maximum efficiency in plant operations, optimize plant up-time or runtime and minimize all plant downtime through support of laboratory operations and sample analysis.  
Manage Quality Control on all final products.
Ensure all QC Standard Operating Procedures (both laboratory and product SOPs) are up to date and followed.
Communicate any issues with product quality with the appropriate personnel on the local management team, POET(TM) Ethanol Products or POET(TM) Nutrition, and the operations and quality control teams at POET(TM) Plant Management.
Work closely with the Technical Manager and Operations Manager and team as well as with POET(TM) Plant Management personnel to maximize the efficiency of the fermentation process.
Process data management.
Carryout all plant directives from the Technical Manager.
Carryout all QC directives from the QC Department at POET(TM) Plant Management.
Ensure that all QC policies are implemented and followed.
Work with the Operations Department on special testing that is requested.
Complete in a timely fashion research requests made by management.
Maintain and enforce all laboratory safety programs and procedures.
Facilitate communication between departments.
Responsible for budget preparation and cost control for the Laboratory Department.
Present capital request justifications to the Technical Manager.
Communicate production and laboratory performance results to both the General and Plant Manager.
Report to Plant Manager
Maintain a team environment with other plant departments.
Champion POET(TM) Biorefining—Fostoria in the community.
Maintain a high level of customer service and friendly atmosphere.
Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION &amp; EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS/COMPETENCIES

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position along with effective oral and written communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills. 

B.S. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biology, or related science is required.

Minimum of three (3) years lab experience is required.  Prior management, quality control, HPLC, NIR, and ethanol production experience is a plus, but not required.

A successful Quality Manager has experience in lab operations with a strong background in lab quality control and standard lab practices, and product quality control; in addition to being enthusiastic, organized, and able to multi-task, technically and scientifically versed, and has strong leadership and management skills.

Team Member must be able to work as a team with other administrators to achieve maximum plant performance, efficiency, and profitability.

Proficiency with basic computer software and office equipment (i.e. Word, Outlook, and Excel) is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates in multiple work environments, including a plant environment, a laboratory environment, as well as an office environment.  In the lab, the Team Member will work with a range of analytical instrumentation, multiple chemical reagents, and perform various wet chemistry tests.  In the office, the Team Member will work on a personal computer. In the plant environment, Team Member will be required to adhere to all Safety requirements and may be exposed to noise, heat, and other elements both inside and outside. This position is largely self-directed and requires understanding of company policy, procedures, and values.
Quality Manager regular hours are M-F 8-5; additional hours or call-in requirements are required based on plant needs.  
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this position, the Quality Manager will be exposed to moving, mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high noise levels, internal and external temperature/weather conditions, and exposed to chemicals.
Specific Physical requirements include:

Occasionally lifting weights of fifty (50) pounds or less
Climbing several flights of stairs and ladders.
Opening valves.
Occasionally bending, twisting, and turning while lifting weights of less than fifty (50) pounds.
Occasional lifting of weights greater than fifty (50) pounds.
Data entry while seated for greater than one (1) hour.
Walking up to one (1) mile per day.
Pushing brooms, shovels, etc.
Working at heights, in confined spaces, and at temperatures from -20 to +100 degrees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


Learn, maintain and operate all processes associated with the plant including repair and maintenance. 
Learn and operate DCS (computer control system) for the plant.
Learn and perform basic electrical troubleshooting.
Follow procedures for plant start-up, shut-down, cleaning and batching.
Keep accurate and timely logs.
Respond to collected data and make adjustments to optimize plant operation. Do quality controls tests on product streams and make necessary adjustments.
Remove, install, rebuild, lubricate and clean all equipment associated with plant processes.
Perform preventative and predictive maintenance tasks as directed.
Work with the team to accomplish all tasks in a timely and safe manner.
Keep plant facilities clean.
Keep technicians coming on-shift briefed on what has happened and what is supposed to be done during the next shift.
Responsible for notifying the Shift Supervisor and/or Process Engineer of any production problems.
Follow safe work practices and maintain a team environment with other plant departments.
All other duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor, Plant Manager, and/or General Manager.

EDUCATION &amp; EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS/COMPETENCIES

The minimum requirements for this position include: 

Experience in production plants helpful.  HS diploma or equivalent. Basic computer skills necessary.  

Some (2+ years) experience with fabrication, welding, cutting, gearbox repair, pump alignment, boiler operations and water chemistry, material handling systems, preventative maintenance, instrument and electrical work.
State of Ohio High Pressure Boiler Operator License required.
Welding, torching, specialized trades beneficial.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this position, the Team Member is regularly exposed to moving, mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high noise levels, internal and external temperature/weather conditions, and exposed to chemicals. 
An operator shift is approximately 12 hours/day and possible call-in requirements.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The Team Member must be able to complete laboratory specific physical requirements including: 

Frequently lifting weights of 10# or less
Climbing several flights of stairs and ladders
Opening valves

Manage the procuring of corn supplies for the facility.

Oversee the contractual agreements with these purchases.
Hedge purchases as recommended by Commodity Marketing Company.
Oversee the grading of the inbound corn and dockage discounts.
Manage the physical handling of corn in and finished products out of the facility.
Monitor the quality and quantity of the inventories.
Manage the inventory being used for production.
Work with other departments to move product out of the facility.
Coordinate with the marketing partners the movement of products, information, and facilitate instructions.
Oversee the various inventory, record keeping, information gathering, documents/reports and regulatory agencies requirements for POET Biorefining—Corning in the grain areas, ethanol, and feed transportation areas.
Manage the safety of the grains Team Members and the areas they work in.
Mange the equipment used in the grain department and coordinates with other departments to insure it remains operational and is safe to use.
Manage the sanitation and cleanliness of the grain building, areas around the grain building, the railroad tracks, and tank farm.
Oversee and encourage the Commodity Supervisor, Grain Buyer, and Commodity Assistants in the tasks they perform.
Oversee all transactions between the plant and CBOT futures representatives and positions the plant has on CBOT.
Perform any other duties or requests that the General Manager may assign.
Maintain a team environment with other plant departments.
Champion POET Biorefining—Corning in the community.
Maintain a high level of customer service and friendly atmosphere.
Others duties as assigned.

EDUCATION &amp; EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS/COMPETENCIES

B.S. or greater in Ag-Business or Marketing or other formal training is essential.  Five (5) years of experience in grain marketing is required.   Previous management experience beneficial.

Responsible for implementing and maintaining safety process management.
Work with Operations Engineering Manager and Optimization support from Plant Management on operational/troubleshooting issues.
Complete data analysis of process information: create associated action plans and identify optimization needs.
Develop and utilize historical database reports.
Ensure that all city, county, state and federal regulations are being met at all times.
Strive for maximum efficiency in plant operations, optimize plant up-time or runtime and minimize all plant downtime.
Responsible for implementing and maintaining process safety management.
Train plant technician on all aspects of existing and updated plant processes and operations.
Facilitate communication between departments.
Ensure that all plant policies are implemented and followed.
Carry out all directives from the General Manager.

Secondary Accountabilities:

Write and coordinate procedures, and communicate to shift supervisors/plant technicians as necessary.
Present capital request justifications to the General Manager.
Communicate production performance numbers to the General Manager.

EDUCATION &amp; EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS/COMPETENCIES

B.S. or greater in Engineering (chemical preferred).  Three (3) years experience in an operating processing plant environment such as grain processing, chemical processing or pharmaceutical.

Assist in hiring of plant operator personnel, for all shifts
Responds to team member inquiries and related issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Manage all aspects of the Quality Control Laboratory.

Train lab personnel on the use of lab equipment and interpretation of results.
Establish testing protocols and ensure that test results are repeatable and accurate.
Train operators in proper field sampling and testing techniques and interpretation of the results.
Approve laboratory personnel hiring.
Ensure that all city, county, state, and federal regulations as they apply to the laboratory and laboratory responsibilities are being met at all times.
Strive for maximum efficiency in plant operations, optimize plant up-time or runtime and minimize all plant downtime through support of laboratory operations and sample analysis.  
Manage Quality Control on all final products.
Ensure all QC Standard Operating Procedures (both laboratory and product SOPs) are up to date and followed.
Communicate any issues with product quality with the appropriate personnel on the local management team, POET(TM) Ethanol Products or POET(TM) Nutrition, and the operations and quality control teams at POET(TM) Plant Management.
Work closely with the Technical Manager and Operations Manager and team as well as with POET(TM) Plant Management personnel to maximize the efficiency of the fermentation process.
Process data management.
Carryout all plant directives from the Technical Manager.
Carryout all QC directives from the QC Department at POET(TM) Plant Management.
Ensure that all QC policies are implemented and followed.
Work with the Operations Department on special testing that is requested.
Complete in a timely fashion research requests made by management.
Maintain and enforce all laboratory safety programs and procedures.
Facilitate communication between departments.
Responsible for budget preparation and cost control for the Laboratory Department.
Present capital request justifications to the Technical Manager.
Communicate production and laboratory performance results to both the General and Technical Manager.
Report to Technical Manager
Maintain a team environment with other plant departments.

EDUCATION &amp; EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS/COMPETENCIES

B.S. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biology, or related science is required.

Minimum of three (3) years lab experience is required.  Prior management, quality control, HPLC, NIR, and ethanol production experience is a plus, but not required.

A successful Quality Manager has experience in lab operations with a strong background in lab quality control and standard lab practices, and product quality control; in addition to being enthusiastic, organized, and able to multi-task, technically and scientifically versed, and has strong leadership and management skills.

Team Member must be able to work as a team with other administrators to achieve maximum plant performance, efficiency, and profitability.

Proficiency with basic computer software and office equipment (i.e. Word, Outlook, and Excel) is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates in multiple work environments, including a plant environment, a laboratory environment, as well as an office environment.  In the lab, the Team Member will work with a range of analytical instrumentation, multiple chemical reagents, and perform various wet chemistry tests. Team Member must have secondry degree or greater education or other formal training within a manufacturing/production maintenance environment. Three (3) to five (5) years of supervisory and/or managerial experience is beneficial.

Team Member must have knowledge of maintenance procedures for centrifuges, drying equipment, boilers, cooling towers, chillers, air compressors, pumps, valves, electrical circuits and equipment and 4-20 milliamp instrumentation.

Team Member must have experience with computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, and Project.  Experience with Maintenance management systems such as Maximo is preferred. Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations are also a requirement.
